CELEBRATE BASTILLE DAY WITH PLAN B AT THE REGATTA PUB IN SALEM!

Bon jour! Happy Bastille Day everybody! We realized we didn’t really know very much about this holiday, so we did some research and here’s what we found:

Bastille Day is France’s Independence Day, commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789. This is 13 years (and a couple of weeks) after the United States created Independence Day.

My theory is this: Some French people were in the U.S. in July of 1789 and saw us partying with our cookouts and fireworks and live music, and thought (in a French accent) “Hey, why we cannot do this too at home?”. So they set out for France the next day, spent about a week traveling and planning the celebration (and the storming too of course), and Voila! Bastille Day!

The point is this… WE THOUGHT OF IT FIRST. And rumor has it we came up with French Fries too, but since you really can’t have too many celebrations, let’s all just get along and have cookouts and listen to live music. For example,
